On August 16, 2018, Aretha Franklin, the Queen of Soul, passed away at home surrounded by family.  

The musical phenomenon crossed racial and gender barriers, Franklin began her vocal career as a teenager, singing gospel hymns in her father’s Detroit church. She gained stardom in 1967 with a breakout chart-topper, “Respect.”

 

In her career, the amazing artist recorded 77 songs that reached the top 100 and earned 18 Grammys. She is the first woman to be inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame and was named the Greatest Singer of All Time by Rolling Stone.

 

Funeral service for Aretha will be at Greater Grace Temple on August 31, 2018. She will be laid to rest immediately following at Detroit’s Woodlawn Cemetery on August 31st  The funeral will follow an open casket public viewing on August 28th and 29th at the Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History in Detroit,MI, where her body will lie in state.
