• To identify, enhance, promote, and reward academic excellence among minority high school students.
• Mobilize community of experts as mentors and coaches.
• Provide opportunities that perfect interests, skills, and talent in the science, humanities, performing and visual arts, and business.

​WHAT IS ACT-SO?

ACT-SO is a major educational initiative of the NAACP. Its goal is to promote academic and artistic excellence among African American high school students. ACT-SO is a critical part of the transitional process between high school and a new generation of architects, scientists, musicians, authors, poets, dancers, artists and entrepreneurs. ACT-SO is NOT a talent show, but a career starter. 

​WHO SPONSORS ACT-SO?
ACT-SO is a national initiative that evolves through local programming. Local NAACP branches across the country hold competitions. First place winners advance to national competition, held annually prior to the National Convention.

PROGRAM ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA:

 

  • High school students of Africandescent

  • U.S. citizen or legal resident

  • Currently enrolled in grades 9-12

  • Aamateur in the category of competition
